It’s been a month since we last posted so rectifying this now!
‘Tis the season for Yuletide felicitations and merriment!
You can find our fabulous Winter Ale, St Stephen at The Caledonia together with Father Ted and our new beer in the Icons of Rock Series, Whiter Shade of Pale:
We hope you like it!
And while we’re here we would just like to thank Laura from The Caledonia for all her support by buying our beer. The Cale has been our best customer since we started brewing from Knowsley Park in March 2013 and its a fabulous pub with some great beer!
Also a new customer of ours, The Blackburne Arms has the wonderful Stanley Gold for you. The Blackburne has it’s mojo back so get down there and support them and sup some more great beer!
All that remains for us to say is a big thank you to EVERYONE who has supported us in this fledgling year of The Melwood Beer Company. We couldn’t have done it without some of you – you know who you are – and we are eternally grateful for everything!
So…………. expect greater things from us in 2014. We have big plans so watch this space, keep drinking real ale and have a Cool Yule and a Happy New Beer!
Melwood will be showcasing our Winter Ale, St Stephen, at this festival together with our flagship beer CITRADELIC! and maybe a few others! We will let you know nearer the time.
It is with great regret and huge disappointment to us personally that we announce that the Festival has been cancelled. We are absolutely gutted as we had made all the arrangements to enable us to provide a full real ale bar service to the festival. All our expenses and arrangements are now down the pan.
We are hoping to arrange something else in the lead up to Christmas, so keep watching this space for news…
In the meantime you can still find our beers in St Helens – The Phoenix Inn and in Liverpool – The Caledonia & The Blackburne Arms.
We are pleased to announce that Melwood have two beers on at Liverpool Organic’s Waterloo Beer Festival this weekend!
We have the fabulous Equinox 4%ABV – a lovely English Pale Ale and Waterloo Sunset 4%ABV which we brewed especially for this festival! This is a smooth English Pale Ale with a hint of something special!
We hope you can get along there and try our beers in this fabulous old church in Waterloo.
The Waterloo Beer Festival is being held at:
Old Christ Church Waterloo Road Merseyside L22 1RF
We’ve got one beer on at the Southport Beer Festival – Equinox English Pale Ale 4% ABV and the details to the festival are:

At the Knowsley Food Drink & Lifestyle Festival we have a collection of producers from far and wide bringing a huge variety of products. But we think that is those that are closest to us that need to step into the spotlight, so, cue the local produce areas of the festival. We have local produce from Merseyside, the Fylde Coast, Made in Cheshire, Cumbria and Lancashire, all to tickle your tastebuds and show just how good our region is.
Visit by car: You can get to Knowsley Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival easily from the motorway. From M62, exit at junction 6 then take M57 and exit at junction 2. At the roundabout you just need to follow the brown Knowsley Safari Park signs. For satelite navigation, enter the postcode L34 4AN.
No Car? Want to visit the festival? No Problem. Hop on Bus Number 530 which leaves Liverpool City centre at 10:00 am on selected days. There are five pick up points along the route.
We came, we saw, we conquered! Yet again Melwood beers sold out at this fabulous festival. And what a venue! – St George’s Hall is stunning and it perfectly housed all the wonderful beers, ciders and perries that could be found there. Here are some photos on the Friday night when John and Julie attended. The last pic is from Saturday night when we were messaged to tell us our beer had sold out with still a full day to go! You can catch us at Waterloo if you’ve still to sample our delights!

There’s 300 ales to savour at Liverpool’s Beer Festival – here’s our guide and tipple tips
Liverpool’s St Georges Hall will provide the setting of Liverpool Beer festival
Liverpool’s St George’s Hall Beer Festival begins next week – and will feature a staggering 300 beers from across the UK.
The event runs Thursday, September 26 to Sunday, September 29 – with the Friday and Saturday night sessions having already sold out and Saturday afternoon is close to selling out.
Kirkdale-based Liverpool Organic Brewery decided to run the St George’s hall event after the success of its twice-yearly Waterloo Beer Festival.
The hall showcase will feature up to 300 beers from breweries across the UK, as well as 20 Liverpool Organic ales.
It will feature three morning and three afternoon sessions in the Hall, as well as an all-day session on Sunday.
There will also be live music plus locally sourced food and soft drinks on offer.
Mark Hensby, managing director of Liverpool Organic Brewery, said: “Demand across all four days has surpassed expectations and we have been thrilled with the response from the Merseyside region and beyond.
“There is clearly a strong appetite for experiencing quality-produced, locally-sourced beers and ciders.
“A large number of customers come from around the UK, with some even travelling from as far away as Europe and the US.
“We have held a number of successful festivals in Waterloo and we also have one coming up at The Black E, but St George’s Hall represents a whole new level and this will certainly be our largest event to date.
“However, our visitors can rest assured that beer resources won’t run dry and we will certainly have enough supply on tap to keep serving well beyond Sunday.”
Liverpool Organic Brewery was founded in 2008 by Mr Hensby and head brewer Karl Critchley.
Its beers include several named after “Heroes of Liverpool”, including Joseph Williamson and Kitty Wilkinson.

Liverpool ECHO resident real ale expert Alistair Houghton picks his top beers
Liverpool Organic: Liverpool Pale Ale
Alistair says: “With Cains on hiatus, this reliably refreshing pale is now a classic Liverpool pint – see also Organic’s slightly darker Best Bitter. As refreshing sponsor, Organic will have a full range of beers on show – do try the beautifully fragrant Josephine Butler elderflower ale.”
Mad Hatter: American Psycho
Alistair says: ” This new Liverpool brewery is inspired by the US “craft beer revolution” – which is why this brown ale packs such a zingy hoppy punch.”
Melwood: Citradelic
Alistair says: “This very fruity beer from Knowsley divided opinions at Waterloo Beer Festival – but I loved it. My tasting notes said “Kia Ora”, if that’s any guide.”
Marble: Ginger
Alistair says: “A real ginger beer, with all the fire of the ginger root – an unusual and tasty Mancunian tipple, though you’ll only want one or two.”
Titanic: Plum porter
Alistair says: “A rich, dark beer with a delicious plummy sweetness. If you liked Cains’ raisin beer, this could be a darker alternative.”
And one for the road…
Northumberland: Bucking Fastard
Alistair says: “Just because I want to hear you order it.”
