Just to let you know there is another hiatus in our brewery at the mo! But it’s all in the name of better beer! Stan has been hard at work plumbing everything in for us to make our brews even more efficient. I can’t tell you how much difference this man has already made to the brewery. He really is a scientist and we value him greatly. Hopefully all the work will be finished by this weekend; then there’ll me an almighty clean down and then back to business as usual. We’ve had an indirect request to brew Knowsley Blonde so watch this space and you might be lucky!
From THE Knowsley Blonde (cheeky but not tarty) mrsmelwoodbeer
Something we’ve been alluding to for a couple of months can now be officially proclaimed! Stan Shaw, formerly of Wapping Brewery has not retired. He is joining John & Julie at The Melwood Beer Company and will be brewing part time from the beginning of April. Stan announced it in the programme at Liverpool CAMRA Beer Festival at The Crypt over the weekend.
We are very lucky to be working with master brewer Stan and we have already learned so much from him and he has improved and continues to improve, our kit with his welding craftsmanship. Our beer is enhanced too and we are really humbled that he has chosen to work with us in Knowsley Park. It will be good for Stan to come out of the cramped cellar conditions that he has been used to into Melwood’s bright airy brew house surrounded by trees and wildlife as well as our friendly neighbourhood rams right outside the door. Stan used to play here on the estate as a lad and it brings back memories for him just being here. It’s like he was always meant to return!
So Stan’s swan song was played out at the Liverppol CAMRA Beer festival with a number of his brews taking pride of place in the local breweries section, with his final beer ‘The End’ a triumph!
Stan said “is it the end or is it the beginning or is it the beginning of the end?” We like to think its a new beginning and a fabulous addition to what is already a smashing brewery (even if I say so myself-mrsmelwoodbeer).
We welcome Stan to our little family and hope you will too!

It is with great regret and huge disappointment to us personally that we announce that the Festival has been cancelled. We are absolutely gutted as we had made all the arrangements to enable us to provide a full real ale bar service to the festival. All our expenses and arrangements are now down the pan.
We are hoping to arrange something else in the lead up to Christmas, so keep watching this space for news…
In the meantime you can still find our beers in St Helens – The Phoenix Inn and in Liverpool – The Caledonia & The Blackburne Arms.
We are pleased to announce that Melwood have two beers on at Liverpool Organic’s Waterloo Beer Festival this weekend!
We have the fabulous Equinox 4%ABV – a lovely English Pale Ale and Waterloo Sunset 4%ABV which we brewed especially for this festival! This is a smooth English Pale Ale with a hint of something special!
We hope you can get along there and try our beers in this fabulous old church in Waterloo.
The Waterloo Beer Festival is being held at:
