Into the Doghouse….

Well we are finally in!

It’s been a strange December; the actual big move was delayed somewhat by works on-going at the Kennels and then the necessary Asbestos inspection that totally threw us before we could move the kit in situ.  We passed the Asbestos inspection thankfully and the Melwood kit is now residing in its new brewhouse with Stan doing a few adjustments here and there even up to today.

Christmas sales were mental and we realised we hadn’t brewed enough or bottled enough, so we have learned a lesson – (never move to new premises over the Christmas period) – no – Be Prepared! Next year will be different, we promise!

And as we leave our lovely little brewery we move to our new home which is even more lovely, infinitely bigger and has so much potential we are still pinching ourselves…

And a new year and a new start for Melwood.  In 2016 we have big plans for development of our brand(s), our new beautiful Kennels home, exciting new company plans and above all, developing better beer, nay, fabulous beer!

We will have a launch, once we are sorted out and tidied up so keep your eyes peeled for more news as it comes.

We hope you’ll come along with us in 2016, on our ‘journey;’ (sorry about the cliché)  It’s gonna be a wonderful year for us.  Hope yours is too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Here are some photos of the move.  Although it was difficult, we had a laugh moving and did pretty much everything in Melwood Van…

Just to let you know that although we are not appearing personally at the Liverpool Food & Drink festival (Costs so high I’m afraid and it way out of our budget this year) we WILL be represented by Liverpool One Bridewell who are serving our bespoke beer ‘Jailhouse Rocks’ on cask and by the fabulous Paul Askew and The Art School Restaurant who will be serving our bespoke bottled beer, ‘Porky’s Pale Ale’ and our very own ‘Knowsley Blonde’ (again in bottles), for your delectation. Please remember them when voting online for the awards http://www.liverpoolfoodanddrinkfestival.co.uk/?page_id=166 Both restaurants do so much to promote local producers especially Liverpool producers.

It’s all go at Melwood

Melwood has had a busy few days!!

We’ve been cask washing like there’s no tomorrow!! That’s not unusual though as Mrsmelwoodbeer usually does a lot of that.  But because we’ve brewed so much lately (can’t stop Stan- he’s a Trojan!) we need to put the beer somewhere!! Added to the fact that Mrmelwoodbeer can’t lift anything just now we are hoping MrsMelwood’s back holds out!

We brewed two Core Beers last week – Knowsley Blonde & Stanley Gold so these should be going out next week for your delectation!

Father Ted went into pubs again this week – for those of you that don’t know Father Ted is a beer made in tribute to MrsMelwood’s dad, Ted Doyle RIP.  Ted was an avid home brewer in his younger days (its where MrsMelwood learned to brew when she was just a little girl – helping dad bottling etc – but not drinking the stuff until she was all grown of course!).  The pump clip features Ted’s photograph from when he was a Submariner ‘durin the War’ (WW2) and his submarine ‘The Votary’.  He was a fabulous bloke who loved quality ale and I’m sure he would have been proud of us doing what we are doing now-only wish he had lived to see it happen 🙁  Who’da thought it dad? You would have loved this!

And busy weekends are coming!!!

Just a reminder of the festivals coming up imminently:

Melwood will be at The Waterloo Beer Festival this weekend 2-4th May.  Julie and John will be attending Saturday evening so if you see us, do pop over and say hello!

June will see the return of the Liverpool Craft Beer Expo on 5-8th June.  This was a great event and we enjoyed it very much! Tickets can be got from: http://www.liverpoolcraftbeerexpo.com/tickets/

So get yourselves down to these festivals and support local producers because that’s what it’s all about.

And…….

There’ll be an announcement of two events coming next week so keep your eyes peeled on this site and Facebook/Twitter!!

Plumbing Work continues at Melwood Beer Co

Update on the plumbing work Stan is doing….

It’s taking a bit longer than expected to get back to brewing at Melwood Towers!

We hope to be back brewing next week as we need to replenish our stocks (which are dwindling because you lovely pubs are selling lots of our beer!) but we need to make sure everything is working well and cleaned to within an inch of its life.

Stan is working hard to get the show on the road and then we can start doing what we do best; brew splendid Melwood Beer Co ales!

Addendum:  It’s been great to hear that Derby Stout has gone down so well  – selling out pretty much wherever it’s gone!  Currently at The Pilgrim Liverpool, The Pheonix Inn St Helens and Prescot Cables Beer Festival if you would like to try it!

More work at the brewery

Just to let you know there is another hiatus in our brewery at the mo!  But it’s all in the name of better beer!  Stan has been hard at work plumbing everything in for us to make our brews even more efficient.  I can’t tell you how much difference this man has already made to the brewery.  He really is a scientist and we value him greatly.  Hopefully all the work will be finished by this weekend; then there’ll me an almighty clean down and then back to business as usual.  We’ve had an indirect request to brew Knowsley Blonde so watch this space and you might be lucky!
